I went food shopping at a ShopRite today, and it was an ordeal! I live in an area in New Jersey that has Park Ridge, Montvale, and Hillsdale. From the moment I was at the entrance, an employee said “hey where’s your mask? You have to wear a mask!” I told him I had one in my bag.
Once inside, another employee said “you have to wear a mask!” Then he gave me a mask which I put on. (I don’t want to wear a mask. It makes it hard to breathe; also, I watch Tucker Carlson on Fox news and I look at One America News. By all accounts, this pandemic is over and wearing a mask doesn’t even help you to avoid any flu or covid. (I don’t watch crap news channels.) People inside the store all wore masks like good little soldiers.
I put my mask down on my neck. All of a sudden 3 employees were yelling at me to “put on your mask!” I told them it was hard to breathe with it on and I would not wear it. “NO! they yelled – you must put it on! I said “Look, why don’t you call the Police and you can have me put in jail!” They kept saying “YOU HAVE TO WEAR IT!”
Then I went and bought two salads and went to a checkout. The checkout woman screamed at me to “STAND BACK!” I moved back all the way to the grocery racks, about 11 feet, then decided to go to the aisle next to her aisle. She kept looking at me and then said “you have to pull your mask UP! (I had it covering only my mouth so I could breathe better.) She kept staring at me from her aisle.
At that point I could feel myself starting to cry but controlled it. I was harrassed and humiliated, and it all felt like an assault. I felt exhausted and worn down.
I also shop at Wegman’s supermarket and they never treat you that way. No one says STAND BACK! or “wear a mask!”.
