We the People of the United States

ARE YOU ENRAGED ABOUT WHAT’S GOING ON IN AMERICA?  I SURE AM!

I’M ANGRY BECAUSE A CEMETERY IN THE UNITED STATES HAS REMOVED THE HORIZONTAL BARS ON ALL THE CROSSES THERE;

BECAUSE JOE BIDEN SAYS WALL STREET HAS CAUSED OUR PRESENT ECONOMIC DILEMMA.  NO, JOE, YOU AND YOUR LEFT-WING DEMOCRATS DID THAT.  BARNEY FRANK  DID THAT.  OBAMA DID THAT BY SPENDING LIKE IT’S HIS OWN MONEY, INCREASING BY AN ASTONISHING AMOUNT OF MONEY AN ALREADY INCREDIBLY HIGH DEBT AND DEFICIT.  POLITICIANS WHO ARE OBSESSED WITH THEIR OWN RE-ELECTIONS DID THAT;

BECAUSE I HEAR OBAMA & MEMBERS OF CONGRESS TELLING ME THAT WE THE PEOPLE WILL HAVE TO MAKE SACRIFICES TO HELP OUR DESTROYED ECONOMY.  WE HAVE TO SACRIFICE?  NO, YOU MAKE THE SACRIFICES.  YOU DO WITHOUT YOUR PAYCHECKS.  LOTS OF U.S. CITIZENS ARE DOING WITHOUT THEIR PAYCHECKS BECAUSE OF YOU!

BECAUSE THOSE WE ELECTED DIDN’T DO ANYTHING ABOUT OUR DEBT AND DEFICIT A LONG TIME AGO;

BECAUSE PRES. GEORGE BUSH IGNORED PLEAS FROM THE AMERICAN PEOPLE TO PUT A STOP TO ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION, AND OBAMA AND HIS ADMINISTRATION NOT ONLY DO NOTHING, BUT ALSO TREAT THE GOVERNOR AND THE PEOPLE OF ARIZONA AS ENEMIES OF AMERICA;

BECAUSE I DON’T SEE JOHN BOEHNER STANDING BEFORE US AND ACTING LIKE HE’S ENRAGED ABOUT WHERE THIS ADMINISTRATION IS TAKING US.  WHERE’S THE ANGER FROM REPUBLICANS, CONSERVATIVES?  IS EVERYTHING GOING ON TODAY OK WITH ALL OF YOU?

BECAUSE SO MANY OF OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS DON’T CARE WHAT HAPPENS TO THIS COUNTRY.  HEY, DON’T YOU LIVE HERE, TOO?

BECAUSE THERE ARE SO MANY LIARS IN THIS ADMINISTRATION.  I’M ANGRY THAT THOSE WHO KNOW ABOUT THIS DISHONESTY ARE AFRAID TO CALL OUT THE LIARS, AND IF THEY COURAGEOUSLY DO CALL THEM OUT, THEY ARE ASKED TO APOLOGIZE!  NO MORE APOLOGIZING FOR TELLING THE TRUTH!

PEOPLE YOU AND I HAVE ELECTED TO OFFICE, TRUSTING IN THEIR INTEGRITY, ARE LIARS.  THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.  I PARTICULARLY HATE PRESIDENTS, SENATORS, & REPRESENTATIVES WHO LIE TO ME.

I’M ANGRY BECAUSE IN RED HOOK, BROOKLYN, CITIZENS WANT TO HONOR SEVEN FIREFIGHTERS KILLED ON 9/11 BY NAMING A STREET FOR THEM “SEVEN IN HEAVEN.”  A GROUP OF ATHEISTS IS FIGHTING AGAINST THIS BECAUSE THE WORD “HEAVEN” IS USED, & THEY FEEL “INSULTED.”  MESSAGE TO THIS GROUP:  BE AN ATHEIST. I DON’T GIVE A CRAP WHAT YOU ARE.  I’LL ALLOW YOU TO BE AN ATHEIST.  AND YOU WILL ALLOW ME TO BE A CHRISTIAN, OR WHATEVER I DAMN WELL WANT TO BE.  WHY DON’T YOU SHUT UP.

THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES WANTS TO DESTROY THE UNITED STATES.  HOW ABOUT THAT, CONGRESS?

AND ABOUT OUR CONSTITUTION:  WE AMERICANS WHO CARE ABOUT AMERICA WILL NOT ALLOW YOU WHO DON’T CARE TO DO AWAY WITH THE CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

BE IT KNOWN BY ALL:

THE WORDS OF THE AMERICAN “PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE” ARE NOT A TOPIC FOR LEFT-WING DISCUSSION.

THE LAWS OF THE UNITED STATES DO NOT REQUIRE THE APPROVAL OF MEXICO.

WHEN LEFT-WING DEMOCRATS RESORT TO CALLING OTHERS “RACISTS!” IT’S BECAUSE THEY ARE UNABLE TO CONFRONT THE TRUTH.

AND NOW:

FROM THE STRUCTURE AND LEGALITY OF ELLIS ISLAND, WHICH HELPED TO MAKE AMERICA GREAT, TO THE CHAOS AND DEATH OF THE AMERICAN/MEXICAN BORDER; TO THE CHAOS AND DEATH IN NORWAY – THERE IS A CONNECTION, A THREAD.

I HEARD THAT WE MUST NOT USE CAPITAL LETTERS WHEN WRITING BLOGS, ETC., AS PEOPLE WILL THINK WE ARE “SHOUTING.”

I AM SHOUTING:

“ALL THAT IS NECESSARY FOR THE TRIUMPH OF EVIL IS THAT GOOD MEN DO NOTHING.”

Edmund Burke

Here’s a “flat” type of collar, with a lace edging.  Very nice-looking;  this type of collar was worn by both men and women, as was the ruff collar.

A wonderful portrait.

Metropolitan Museum of Art Reference Note:

Giles Knox. The Late Paintings of Velázquez: Theorizing Painterly Performance. Farnham, England, 2009, pp. 111, 113, fig. 4.6 (color), discusses the hierarchy of genres and Velázquez’s decision to present himself as a portrait rather than a history painter in his second visit to Rome; notes that portraits were seen as one notch above genre painting, since their subjects were so often of noble birth, but in the case of his portrait of Pareja, Velázquez “emphatically removed the nobility of the subject from the equation and thereby asserted the nobility of portraiture as portraiture,” a clear challenge to the accepted hierarchy.

A little boy with a little collar (and cuffs).  So beautifully painted, so charming!  I had never heard of this artist, Drouais, but I like his work.  Did this kid really stand still long enough for the artist to finish his work? Impossible!

Also note this was painted on an oval canvas.  Some subject matter just lends itself to the oval.

I have to do some research on all these collars, to find out if the size of a collar had an important meaning.  If it did, this must have been one very important woman!

Was it difficult to eat while wearing this collar?  Maybe it was removed while eating.

She’s thoughtful in this portrait; maybe she was a teacher, or what we would call a “Principal” or a “Dean.”  Also, here again is a very high forehead.  I wonder if people in those days had a vitamin deficiency that caused balding, even in women.

My Grandfather with Collar

Rev. Jacob C. Herre

ANY CHARACTER HERE

Photographer:  Unknown
Title: Rev. Jacob C. Herre, Lutheran Minister
Medium:  Photograph
Classification:  Photographs
Credit Line:    The Herre Family Collection

We’ve seen these collars from the 16th through the 18th centuries.  Here we have a man from the 20th century, my paternal grandfather, wearing the same type of collar.

Jacob Herre was active at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Berlin, New Hampshire, and at Bethany Lutheran Church in the Bay Ridge section of Brooklyn, New York, where my 2 sisters and I grew up during the 1940’s and 1950’s.  I’m the oldest sister but I don’t have any memories of him – I guess I was too young.

I find it so interesting that the same type of collar was worn relatively recently, as opposed to such a long time ago.

I do wish I had known him.
